Certain medical conditions would preclude the use of massage therapy as some stimulation could cause discomfort. Therefore before the therapist begins the first session, a brief medical history of the client has to be taken. This ensures that the therapist can tailor the massage to best suit the requirements of the client. It also ensures that there are no severe contraindications which would indicate that the massage therapy should indeed not be done.

Contraindications :
People with degenerative spinal disorders such as osteoporosis and arthritis require a more gentle massage.

Pressure should be adjusted according to the clients needs, age and characteristics.

At least five days should be allowed between each session to allow the toxins released by the treatment to be dispersed.
